2004 Austin Marathon Finish Times

What's your best marathon time? If you're average, it's probably between 3.5 hours and 5 hours. If you've run it in under 3 hours, I would consider you a top runner. If you've run it under 2.5 hours, I would definitely consider you an elite runner.

Below are the stats from the 2004 Austin Marathon. Only 14 runners finished in under 2.5 hours and only 154 ran in under 3 hours.

Please note that these stats may not be exact. I had to exclude some runners that had incomplete fields. But it should be close.

Ages of the 2004 Austin Marathon Runners

Marathons seem to attract a lot of folks in their 30's and 40's. Perhaps it's a sort of mid-life crisis kind of thing. I put the race data of the 2004 Austin Motorola Marathon through some programs and generated a graph showing how ages are distributed. As can be seen 30 and 40 year-olds are the largest group. There were 206 40-year-olds who ran which is more than any other age.

Introduction - Running

I've always been interested in running, statistics, and digital art. So I decided to create this site to share these.

After every running race, I'm always researching the stats. What's the average age of the runners? How many runners finished a marathon in under 3 hours? Under 4 hours? How many hit the wall in the last legs of the race?

I'll be using the race statistics that are publicly available for races and try to answer these questions and many more interesting ones. I'll put the race data through my custom made programs and generate these stats.

I'm starting with the Austin Marathon. Later I'll try to gather info from other races in Austin and around the world.

People are not just numbers. In addition to stats, I'm also interested in digital art. The digital art that I'll display here will relate to the races and will be available for sale at cafepress.

Finally, if there are any stats that you are interested in that I don't have, please drop a comment here. I'll do by best to crunch the data and post the stats.
