Boston 2004: Times by Age Group

In addition to looking at the top 1000 men of last year's Boston Marathon by region, I ran my standard age-breakdown program.

The largest age group was the thirties group. About 41% of the 1000 runners were in this category.

The fastest age group was the twenties group with an average time of 3:00:41. About 43% of this group finished under 3hr. Also, the marathon winner was in this group.

There were only 7 teenagers in the top 1000 men: 5 were 19 and 2 were 18. All but one were from the US and had times above 3hr. The one outside the US was from Ethiopia and had the spectacular time of 2:27:54.

At the other end of the age spectrum, there were only two men sixty or over who made it into the top 1000. One was 60 and had a time of 3:04:55. The other was 65 and had a time of 3:13:11.

Here are the details. As before these are based on results posted at marathonguide.com.
