London Marathon Summary

Paula Radcliffe won her third London Marathon today with a time of 2:17:42. The time was over 5 minutes better than the second place woman Constantina Dita of Romania who finished 2:22:50. Radcliffe worried the crowd a little at the 22nd mile when she had a toilet stop to relieve some stomach cramps. But it only delayed her about 15 seconds, and she was able resume her winning pace. She now has won 5 major international marathons (3 London, New York, and Chicago). (BBC article)

For the men, Martin Lel of Kenya won with a time of 2:07:26. Many of the race favorites didn't do so well: the 2004 Olympic winner, Stefano Baldini, finished 5th with a time of 2:09:25, the world record holder, Paul Tergat, finished 8th with a time of 2:11:38, and last year's winner, Evans Rutto, finished 10th with a time of 2:12:49. (BBC article)
