The Bridgerun 10K Stats

Unlike the Austin Cap10K, the Bridge Run has cash prizes which does attract some top runners. Besides cash prizes it also has a unique prize for the top 100 local runners. The top 50 local men and women received certificates good for $250 worth of Chick-fil-A combo meals. I like the idea of prizes for a large number of local runners. And the sponsor of the prizes is probably offering it to the race for free in return for the advertising. The only problem is that these top runners might not be the biggest fans of fast food.

One thing unique about the Bridge Run is the run over the Cooper River Bridge. Here's some info about this bridge:

The twin Cooper River Bridges are located midway through the course: the first two miles of the course are flat. Mile 3 is located near the top of the first span, and Mile 4 near the top of the second span. The slope of the span is 5.5% (a rise of about 160 feet in about 1/2 mile)

There'll be a new Cooper River Bridge for next year's race. According to the bridge's website, it'll be North America's longest cable stay span. From the picture at the website, it looks like it'll be an impressive bridge which should be fun to run across.

And now the stats

There were a sizable number of sub-40 runners (209). There were 184 men and 25 women who ran under 40 minutes. There were even five sub-30 men. Based on percentages, there were only 14% sub-50 men and 3% sub-50 women. One thing to note however, is that all runners were timed so many recreational runners were included.

On the demographics, there were 10187 male runners and 8256 female runners. As I've seen in many other races, women outnumber men in the 20s age group. In this race there were 2849 women in their 20s compared to 2219 men (women/men ratio of 1.28).

Below are all the details for the April 2, 2005 Cooper River Bridge 10K. These stats are based from the results at the Bridge Run Results Page.
