Charleston's and Austin's 10K Runs

The Charleston's Cooper River Bridge 10K Run took place last Saturday (4/2/05) in Charleston, SC. This Bridge Run is the third largest 10K in the US. Coincidentally, the Cap10K in Austin, TX which took place last Sunday is the fourth largest. Another interesting coincidence is that this is the 28th running of both 10Ks.

There were about 13K participants in the Cap10K with about 5137 timed runners. According to this AP article, the Bridge Run had about 24.6K registrants with about 18.5K crossing the finishing line. Austin had the good luck of the weather. The Cap10K had sunny skies and temperature of around 55F. It rained during the Charleston's 10K with the temperature of 63F. The bad weather caused a lot of no-shows (6183). The article mentioned that this was the first time rain fell during the Bridge Run since the first race in 1978.

Unlike the Cap10K, all runners at the Bridge Run were given ChampionChips. So all 18.5K runners were timed.

I'll be posting some more info about the Bridge Run along with stats in future posts.
