3M Half Marathon Stats

The running conditions were perfect yesterday morning for the 3M Half Marathon in Austin, Texas. It was a clear and calm morning with a temperature at the start of the race of 45°F. However, it didn't help enough to allow for new course records. The Men's winner, Kenya's Nicodemus Malakan, finished 1:01:45 which was 29 seconds slower than the 1:01:16 course record. The women's winner was Soon Duk Kang of Korea. She won with a time of 1:10:01. She missed the course record by just 9 seconds. More at runtex.com.

Stats

There were a total of 3107 finishers in yesterday's 3M Half-Marathon. This was an increase from 2005 of over 21%. In 2005 there were 2555 finishers. In 2004 there were 2581. The 3M was the 39th largest half marathon in the nation in 2004 according to runningusa.org.

There were almost the same number of female and male finishers (1553 males and 1554 females). The percentage of women half marathon runners is increasing. Last year, 47.9% of the runners were women. In 2004, the percentage was 46.0%. This seems to be a common trend among all of the half marathons that I've studied.

Most of the runners yesterday were from Austin (61%). The city with at least 20 runners and the fastest average time was Dallas with a mean time of 1:50:52.

Below is the complete stats for the January 29, 2006 3M Half Marathon. These are based on the results at doitsports.com. More race information is available at the 3M Half Marathon and Relay Home Page.

1 Comments:

  • 25-50 seconds will need to be added to all the times. The course was mistakenly set 0.10 mile too short. The official details are at runtex.com.
